A gynaecologist is alleged to have forgot his mobile phone in his patient’s abdomen during a caesarean section – which the patient only realised when it started vibrating inside her.
36 year old, Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Karim, was admitted to a private hospital in Jordan’s capital Amman for the surgery on April 24.
During the botched procedure however, the doctor left his phone in her abdomen – and she only realised when she got home and it started vibrating.
The mother of the patient, Majeda Abdul Hamid told Gulf News Jordan that her daughter gave birth to a 10Ib baby boy before being discharged from hospital.
She said the family began to notice her abdomen vibrated at intervals when they got home.
Members of the Jordanian parliament have now called on the government to resign over the scandal.
The mother went on to say “My daughter suffered serious pains and could not move. I brought her back to the hospital where she was treated but nothing was done for her,” she said.
Hanan was then rushed to the casualty department of Al Bashir public hospital in Amman where X-rays revealed a foreign object in her abdomen.
Physicians in Al Bashir hospital operated on Hanan and removed the phone.
A member of the Jordanian parliament is now calling for the government to resign over the alleged scandal.
Salim Al Bataynah said: “In countries which show respect to their nations, and following such scandals, governments usually resign.
“The parliament should show responsibility and be on the level of the case.”
But Jordanian Health Ministry spokesman Hatem Al Azrae said Hanan’s story was “baseless and fabricated”.
