The immediate past Governor of Lagos state has once again cleared the air over the controversial  N78 million spent for the upgrade of the website – http://www.tundefashola.com  under his watch as governor in the state.

The former governor, took out time to address the issue when Senator Eyinnanya Abaribe asked ”Did you really open a Website with 78Million Naira?” while Fashola was undergoing screening as a ministerial nominee at the senate chambers.

He responded by saying he doesn’t sign checks or award contracts.
He added, “I don’t fix contract prices, it is an institutional process. The only training I have is that of a lawyer, But in order to execute works on a project we need the input of architect, quantity surveyors, structural engineer and we have consulting ministries; For civil works it is the Ministry of Works, for science it is the Ministry of Science and Technology among others.
Now periodically, they do market surveys with the Ministry of Economic Planning , the Statisticians are there to fix prices from biro to Iron rod to cement and it is approved and becomes the  benchmark price of government procurements, nobody can award any other contract over that benchmark.”

#Breaking News! High Court Sacks 22 Elected Rivers APC LG Chairmen

A federal high court sitting in Port Harcourt and presided over by Justice Lambo Akambi, this morning nullified the election of the 22 local Government council chairmen and councillors in Rivers State.
The elections were organized by the Professor Augustine Ahiazu led Rivers State Independent Election Commission, RSIEC, during the administration of Chibuike Amaechi.

Justice Akambi ruled that the conduct of the election that produced the 22 local government council chairmen was illegal and an affront on the court because the matter was pending in court. He noted that RSIEC and the state government got directives not to go ahead with the election but the order of court was fragrantly disobeyed.

With the judgement of the Federal High Court, the 22 local government council chairmen who are all members of the All Progressives Congress have been sacked.

It would be recalled that when RSIEC planned to conduct the election at the twilight of the immediate past administration in May, the state PDP challenged the election through a court injunction but RSIEC claimed the order of court did not affect it, so PDP boycotted it.

RSIEC led by Prof Ahiazu had earlier been sacked by Governor Nyesom Wike and reconstituted.
The Federal High court in its judgement said it had to defend and protect democracy by nullifying the election.

Wike, a lawyer, had vowed to sack the council chairmen and councillors because they were elected illegally but would wait for case to run its full course.

Incredible!!! Wardrobe allowance of N8.64 bn to be paid to National assembly members from next week

The new members of the National Assembly are to receive N8.64 billion as Wardrobe allowance next week.  ThisDay reports that  N8.64 billion wardrobe allowance translates to N17.5 million for each of the 360 members of the House of Representatives and N21.5 million for each of the 109 senators. This doesn’t include  other allowances they are entitled to like furniture, housing and vehicle allowance.

The wardrobe allowance is said to cover the entire four-year tenure that they will be in office while their housing allowances are to be paid on a yearly basis. As approved by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the housing allowance for political office holders is 200 per cent of their annual salaries, the furniture allowance is 300 per cent of annual salaries, while a motor vehicle loan is pegged at 400 per cent of their annual salaries.

Going by this policy, each of the 107 senators besides the Senate President and his deputy, will be paid N4,052,800 as housing allowance. This will be paid to them every year, translating to N433,649,600 as housing allowance to be paid to the Senate annually, while the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President will be provided accommodation by the federal government.

On the other hand, each member of the House of Representatives will be paid N3,970,425 as housing allowance. This implies that the each of the 358 House of representatives members aside the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, will collect a total of N1,421,412,150 as housing allowance.

Like that of the Senate, the speaker and deputy speaker will be given accommodation by the federal government. Following the monetisation of entitlements of public officials undertaken by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, the lawmakers lost the right to occupy houses built and maintained by the government. Hence, the federal government sold the houses previously occupied by the lawmakers to them.

Since the principal officers of the Sixth National Assembly benefited from the sale of the houses, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is currently building new ones for the four presiding officers of both chambers. On the furniture allowance, each of the senators will be paid N6,079,200 while the furniture for both the Senate president and his deputy will be provided by the government. The total sum to be paid to the 107 senators as furniture allowance will be N650,474,400.

In the House of Representatives, each member will be paid N5,955,637.50 as furniture allowance. This means that the 358 members will collect a total of N2,132,118,225 for furniture.

On the vehicle loan, each of the senators is entitled to N8,105,600, while each House member is entitled to N7,940,850.50, meaning that the 107 senators will collectively take N867,299,200 as vehicle loans while the 358 House members will get N2,842,824,479 for their vehicles.

Delta State Governor locked out of office

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the just sworn-in Governor of Delta state was prevented from resuming work yesterday as he couldn’t gain access into his office at the Government house.

It was discovered during an orientation of the new Governor round the Government house office complex that the keys to the locked door of his office were missing.

Although anonymous sources of the Government house claim the keys may have been misplaced by the aides of the new governor during inspections of on-going renovations of the government house and that this has nothing to do with the past administration.

Could this be sabotage…..or not?
